TCWCT launches Swine Flu Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign

The Children’s Welfare Charitable Trust (TCWCT), a Vadodara based 80G non-governmental organization, launched a district-wide information, education and communication (IEC) campaign to prevent swine flu cases in coordination with the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.

Gujarat is battling an alarming spike in swine flu cases this year. This deathly march of swine flu has authorities and people worried as it is reminiscent of the 2015 outbreak when Gujarat had recorded second-highest — 517 — deaths in the country.

The IEC campaign launched today at R & K Pandya High School in Wadi, Vadodara where our organization conducted an awareness program for 200 students.  TCWCT staff displayed a video and distributed informational pamphlets promoting precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus which causes swine flu.

Mr. Paritosh Upadhyay, the Program Director for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Program said, “People affected by cold, cough and throat pain should to go to screening centers such as the SSG Hospital Outpatient Department (OPD) which will remain open on weekends and holidays.”  People were also asked to keep themselves away from crowds and wash their hands often.  Symptoms of swine flu include high fever, runny nose, sore throat, frequent sneezing and coughing.  Mr. Upadhyay continued saying, “Swine flu is curable if diagnosed in the early stage.”
